Jenn Crase, the creator of MathMindset.com, has been an educator for more than 18 years and has taught 7th and 8th grade Math in four different schools, three different districts, and two different states (North Carolina and Kentucky). Her experiences range from urban to rural, poverty to affluent, low performing to very high performing types of schools. She currently is an Associate Principal at a top performing middle school near Louisville, Kentucky.
Mrs. Crase’s passion over the past 10 years has been on standards-based grading. She has revamped the way she analyzes student work, designs units of study, and reshaped student self-assessments. Her techniques have been used district wide and she has worked at the state level to develop a standards-based report card for all Kentucky middle schools. Her passion is making sure students & parents understand what math topics they understand and figuring out a way to be successful with the topics they struggle with. She is always looking for new ways to get students excited about mathematics and learn to love the subject.
Mrs. Crase has a tremendous impact on education. She has served as a Team Leader, new teacher mentor, site-based team member, conference presenter (local, state, & national levels) and as a Math Lead Teacher for her schools. In addition, she has lent her knowledge and instructional expertise to district wide curriculum efforts and has worked in low performing middle schools across the state. She is considered a strong leader and a “go-to” person for her colleagues.
Mrs. Crase has a B.E. in Elementary Education from the University of Toledo and a M.E. in Middle Grades Mathematics Education from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She also has an Ed.S from the University of Louisville in Supervision of Instruction. She is National Board Certified in early adolescent mathematics. In addition to her numerous degrees, she was a two-time finalist for the Kentucky Teacher of the Year award and was named a 2009 Presidential Award Winning Teacher representing secondary mathematics for the state of Kentucky. She is currently working to help students, parents and teachers in her school and throughout the district to find resources with middle school mathematics.
